Titular organist of the choir organ

Born in 2001, Axel de Marnhac was admitted in June 2019 to the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), in the organ-performance class of Michel Bouvard (then Thomas Ospital since September 2021) and Olivier Latry where he obtained his 2nd cycle higher diploma in organ and Basso Continuo for organist (this last discipline with Thierry Maeder and Pierre Cazes), conferring the grade of Master, with the distinction “very good” unanimously in June 2024, as well as his National Higher Diploma of Professional Musician (DNSMP) with the distinction “very good” in June 2022.

Since he was 10 years old, Axel de Marnhac has been the organist of the Delhumeau organ of the church of Pontaumur (Puy-de-Dôme), a copy of J.S. Bach’s organ in Arnstadt, where he plays at all the offices. He was also a substitute organist at the great organ of Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral between 2016 and 2019.

On September 12, 2024, he was appointed by competition as titular organist of the choir organ of Saint-Sulpice.

As a composer, he created his 1st Symphony for Great Organ in 5 movements in 2015 and in April 2017 his opus 4 Symphony-Resurrection for Great Organ in 7 movements on the J. Merklin organ of Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral.

During the summer of 2017, he was accepted among the 4 finalists of the international improvisation competition of Étretat.

In parallel with his organ studies at the CNSMDP, he obtained his Bachelor’s degree, and his Master’s degree in History at Sorbonne-Université. He is currently continuing his studies there in preparation for the Agrégation.
